RM, the laundry of Oderzo opened “by popular acclaim”

The story of this laundry shop located in Treviso begins from the skills of a young ironing lady. When she left the company she was working for, she was encouraged by the customers to start her own business. Today, the laundry business of Roberta Marzella stands out for the treatment of high-quality fashion items, with totally “green” machines and a customer-friendly management system

History

This is a story that deserves a lot of applause. A story that begins when, on the threshold of her splendid R.M. laundry shop, opened in Oderzo, in the province of Treviso, Roberta Marzella reveals: ‘It was my customers who convinced me to start this business”. Entrepreneur by acclamation, therefore, same as it happens when a candidate receives the unanimity consent for a certain position, making useless any secret vote. Simply elected with the applause of all. “By popular acclaim”, as it is said. Something similar applies to Mrs Roberta, who reveals her own story, which began when, as a child, she felt in love with water, nature, with everything that a flourishing and fascinating place like her native land of Treviso area was offering her.

“Like this – remembers Roberta Marzella – when I was 15 years old, I went to work in a nearby laundry in Ponte di Piave. And at 17, I had already gathered so much knowledge that the owner decided to entrust me the management of one of the delivery points, where the customers used to deliver and collect their garments”. “Among the things that I have immediately learnt – continues Roberta Marzella – is what I like to call the art of ironing. When, after washing, the ironed garments are returning as new, in appearance, lines, and comfort. A shirt should not even be brought to the laundry if it is not being returned in a perfect shape”. An artist of ironing. This is how Roberta Marzella made herself known in the five years she worked in this shop. Then life calls her elsewhere: a marriage, a child, a housewife identikit. Only that people didn’t forget about her.

Until life changes again

“The customers from the laundry shop where I worked were the ones looking for me – says the owner of R.M. – especially if they needed a dress ironed before a ceremony, a party, a wedding. This gives me the opportunity to follow the history and evolution of haute couture in real time, especially since I am only in charge of designer or tailor-made garments. It is often a challenge, but I also discover how much I like it”.

One ironing after another, the pace becomes more and more intense and satisfying.

Until life changes again – otherwise what kind of life is it? – and Roberta Marzella finds herself in front of the possibility of returning to the laundry world, but this time as a business owner. It was in Via Altinate, at no. 25, in the centre of Oderzo, where the new business woman opened seventeen years ago her small laundry shop of forty square metres, later doubled with the extension to an adjacent site.

“An important and obviously risky choice – she confessed with an open heart, in her style – ‘but I certainly wouldn’t have made it without the passionate and wonderful support of my customers who seemed to be just waiting for my shop to be open where they could finally bring their clothes”.

Total quality

“At first, I felt like preaching in the desert – continued the owner of R.M. – because no one was able to provide me the things I was asking for, but soon the market started to evolve in the direction that I was hoping for. So much so that today I am happy to be able to use a dry-cleaning machine that can treat high fashion garments magnificently with an ecological solvent called Intense, not derived from petroleum, but from a synthesis of natural elements”.

At this point, the R.M. laundry is opening its doors with a single goal, called “total quality”. With her love for the nature, developed from her early childhood, Roberta Marzella is investing in a double challenge. “My goal is not only to care for haute-couture garments at the highest level of excellence, solving problems such as those related to fabric mixtures or their thermo-welding, but also to do this with machines and products that are as green, sustainable, and aimed at protecting the environment as possible”. Everything at R.M. is aimed to quality striving for perfection. This also applies to the opportunities offered by technology, like the app that allows the customers to follow their garment’s treatment in real time, for instance, the GL 2020 Bologna management system, thanks to which every process is reminding the mechanism of the most sophisticated clockwork.

But this being said, it must be specified that the uniqueness of R.M. would not exist without that human factor, that combination of dedication and passion for which Mrs Roberta’s customers have insisted so much in seeing her running her own shop. That if in 2023 it works so well it is also because the owner has brought her touch, giving it an unique family shop atmosphere, where her son Elia Zanchetta takes care of the administration part and his fiancée Giulia Boccato works alongside Roberta in the laundry shop.
The applause continues.
