Quality, elegance, durability, and product customization, these are the hallmarks that define Tessiltorre on the marketplace. Built on these core values, the company showcases the full potential of textiles for restaurants, guest rooms, and bathrooms, exemplifying how beauty can elevate and promote the essence of Made in Italy.

We primarly focus on table linen and “the table cloth is the queen of our products and therefore deserves special attention”, says Roberto Littamè, the Managing Director of the company.

"Quality has deep historical roots. The tablecloth represents a distinctive piece of our heritage, blending elegance with practicality. In ancient Rome, tables were set with only the essentials, frugality was valued more than the meal itself. It wasn’t until the end of the Republican era that dining and the ritual of table setting became an expression of civilisation, with table linens at the heart of this cultural shift. The roots of Made in Italy can be traced back through this brief historical journey, and even today, we remain a globally recognized model of excellence in this sense”.

Roberto Littamè - an active figure within AIFL (Italian Association of Laundry Suppliers) and, in particular, as Vice President of EXPODETERGO - was one of the key promoters behind the study carried out by Cerved (which we published on page 16) with the title: “Discovering the market for restaurant and food service textiles in Italy”. Alongside other industry leaders in the Association, he championed the initiative to better understand the sector’s dynamics. We asked him what are his impressions that he gained from the research and what ideas it has sparked for the future?

“Discovering the market for restaurant and food service textiles in Italy”

7 out of 10 restaurants in Italy prefer renting textiles over purchasing them, an indicator of the increasingly strategic role played by industrial laundries. How can this data be interpreted?

“The data reveals that most of the restaurant owners consider it more practical to rely on professionals who manage the entire linen cycle. Industrial laundries provide reliable, timely service while ensuring compliance with the quality standards of the hospitality sector. By outsourcing textile management, restaurants can focus fully on their core business, leaving the logistics and upkeep of linens to specialized partners”.

The research aims to delve into the motivations behind why restaurant owners who are choosing fabric table linens make this choice, seeking to understand the factors driving their preference…

“The research data is clear and aligns with expectations. According to most restaurant owners, the primary factors influencing the preference for fabric tablecloths are aesthetics and the overall care of the premises (34%), followed by the attention to quality in both the setting and presentation (26%). Hygiene, ensured through the use of cloth items, also plays a key role, with 12,2% of respondents considering this as a reason. Notably, only 2,9% attribute the use of tablecloths to habit or tradition. This is a reassuring finding, as it suggests that the decision is a conscious one, rooted in considerations of aesthetics and quality rather than simply tradition”.

When asked to forecast future trends, six out of ten hospitality operators anticipate continuing or introducing the use of fabric tablecloths. This signals a positive outlook for the future of textile use in dining establishments. Moving forward, how can we further raise awareness that a quality dining experience is inseparable from the care and dignity of a beautifully set table?

“Care” and “dignity” are two excellent words to describe a tidy, clean, and functional table. However, I would argue that table linens go a step further, making the table visually appealing and transforming the dining experience into a memorable occasion. Italy has always been synonymous with hospitality and gastronomic excellence. Ensuring that this tradition of excellence continues is the responsibility of all professionals in the industry, who must remain attentive to every detail to provide customers with a flawless experience, one that includes a comfortable, personalized, and thoughtfully crafted environment”.

“In conclusion, whether it concerns the table, the bedroom, or the bathroom, at Tessiltorre, the pillars of our work are always characterised by research, creativity, product quality, and innovation. However, for a truly complete experience, we cannot overlook the importance of efficient customer service. We are dedicated to carefully selecting raw materials, sourcing the finest yarns. Made in Italy is a key value for us, it really makes a difference," concludes Littamè. •
