Impianti Novopac was established in 1976 by a group of five technicians and one salesman who left a company in the sector where they acquired experience and expertise, and taking the path of a new professional and entrepreneurial challenge. In 2016, on the company’s 40th anniversary, the founding members decided to continue their project and business by passing the leadership to internal resources and professionals. They selected their successors from among their employees, entrusting them with the task of carrying forward the company. A company with a co-operative politics, adopting a model that closely resembles widespread shareholding and empowering workers to become entrepreneurs. The entire management team, still led by Mr. Pastorino (one of the founding members who remains in the company as a key figure to ensure continuity), works closely with all employees, fostering collaboration and shared responsibility.
We meet Giorgio Castino, one of the company’s associates and the Sales Manager for Italy of Impianti Novopac.
“We operate both in Italy and abroad. We design and manufacture wrapping machines using polyethylene shrink-wrap film and “Wrap-Around” case packers, as well as robots and automation systems for packaging and packing. We focus on wide-ranging packaging solutions for different sectors, one of the most significant ones being the industrial laundry sector. The Italian share of our turnover is accounting for about 50%, while the other half is generated abroad, mainly in European countries. The laundry sector represents around 20% of our total turnover. In addition to Novopac, we have Ital Pal, another company within the same group, focused on robotics, while Citiemme serves as production hub where the machines are being manufactured. Overall, the group generates a total turnover of 30 million euros”.
“The machines dedicated to the laundry sector are extremely reliable, striving to combine a good price-quality balance. Our machines are so highly performant that the attempt of innovating and perfecting them is not such a simple task. In the design of our machines, alongside productivity, we pay special attention to ergonomics, which, in addition to reducing the risks of workplace injuries and the onset of potential occupational illnesses, helps maximize production efficiency. One of the highlights of our wide range of machinery are the shrink film packaging machines for industrial laundries. Our applications allow for the packaging of laundry items in both large and small sizes, and up to individual napkins. The packaging machines are built according to the most advanced ergonomic principles, making the system extremely “user-friendly”. The lowered position of the upper spool holder significantly facilitates the loading and positioning of the film spool; additionally, the option to install the lower spool holder on a removable trolley allows for an easy replacement. All models are PLC-controlled, equipped with an intuitive and user-friendly operator interface according to the latest ergonomic standards, allowing the user to make adjustments through images or touch screen keys. Thanks to the remote control, our technicians are able to monitor and interact with the systems installed, enabling them to exchange data, diagnose any potential faults, and provide real-time assistance. The company also offers an accurate aftersales service, with a large spare parts warehouse and timely, specialized technical support. We guarantee full assistance, including on public holidays, as we work with companies whose productivity cannot afford any downtime”.
“As far as 4.0 Industry is concerned, we have made a strategic choice: a highly professional company on the market cannot have one customer in the A-tier and another in the B-tier. Our product must be strictly 4.0 designed. We offer high technology that meets the modernization parameters of our industry. Consider that a large part of maintenance interventions is carried out remotely, allowing us to optimize industrial and labour costs, and ensure timely problem resolution. We build efficient and long-lasting machines, and after-sales service and maintenance are an integral and meticulously accurate part of ensuring a complete and efficient after-sales service, the real hallmark of Impianti Novopac”.
“For us, the deciding factor that tips the scale in favour of 5.0 Industry, from the customer’s perspective, is based not only on the willingness to seize the opportunity of incentives but also on the intention to increase productivity. Let me explain further. If a company is already owning a machine that produces 10 packages per minute, and if that machine has been
purchased more than ten years ago, we are now able to offer a new one that doubles the productivity, thereby significantly reducing energy costs. This is the trigger that sparks interest. Objectively, a heat shrink oven needs to shrink using heat, and at the moment, technology doesn’t provide alternatives to traditional electric heating elements. However, we have developed a new system that allows welding any material available on the market, including, of course, eco-friendly, compostable, and biodegradable materials”.
“We are building machines that meet all-round needs of our customers. We offer a turnkey package. When you buy the machine, everything that can improve functionality in the laundry sector is included. We have equipped our machines with a camera that, through an app, allows for the monitoring of the machine’s operation, providing productivity data. Our machines are equipped with a synoptic panel that allows us to identify the precise point or the exact location of the problem or malfunction. All of this simplifies both our intervention work and that of the customer”.
“In the Industrial Laundries’ sector, our main task is to take care of the linen coming out from the drying ironers and towel folders, managing the end-of-line process, and ensuring that the packaging protecting the linen guarantees hygiene. It must also be easy to handle and transport to the end user, preserving its integrity and cleanliness. The guarantee of the package’s sealing ensures its airtightness, preventing the contact with external contamination. We have machines capable of working with new eco-friendly and compostable materials, in line with the increasing environmental awareness. In light of this new environmental consciousness, we are preparing to implement a new system – in combination with the heat shrink film wrapping machine – that will enable banding packaging, significantly reducing the amount of plastic material used. In this way, transportation will not be done by individual product but together with other products in closed trolleys. Therefore, the packages are not shrink-wrapped but simply strapped, as already happens in many European countries. The new machine will be versatile, allowing for both banding and the classic packaging method, depending on the chosen type, material, and destination.
